WordPress MeetUp June 11, 2018

It was a small but mighty MeetUp that met on Monday evening. People working on their websites, formatting issues, and on content creation. Brian shared a couple of plugins he likes using. Image Hotspot by Jonathan Bardo allows you to control how WordPress generates the various image size in your site, and what spot on your image you want to be seen when the theme’s default size is cropping it. It has not been updated for two years, so be aware of that. We also looked at Happy Forms, a lightweight form plugin by The Theme Foundry that offers a solid set of options for most basic forms. I liked that there were several quiz-type fields, like sliders, that I don’t see in other free plugins.

Members of the Southeastern Minnesota WordPress Meetup, in the computer lab at the Rochester Public LibraryI got some really positive feedback when I shared that I plan to build out a WordPress training service. I am told that I am a very good teacher, and I know I love working with people to gain mastery over the parts of their website and marketing that they need to use right now in their lives and businesses. I’ll offer one-to-one training while developing online, on-demand videos. Stay tuned!

This meetup is a great place to get feedback on a design you are rolling out, or suggestions on plugins to solve a problem. We have people who can do CSS editing or help you learn how to solve a problem for yourself. We share a lot with each other, too.

If you would be interested in attending, we meet on the second Monday evening of each month, at the Rochester Public Library. Sign up with MeetUp if you want to get updates and notices, but really you can just come when you are able.
