My Favorite and Recommended Apps for WordPress

This list is for our monthly WordPress MeetUp, held on Monday, July 8th, 2019.

Yoast SEO

The gold standard of SEO enhancement but you have to drill down to find all the settings.

Squirrly SEO

I’m investigating Squirrly for the same purpose:

Akismet Anti-Spam

Not needed always, esp if your host is already blocking spam.

Post Tags and Categories for Pages

Once my favorite. While preparing for this demonstration, I found it had not been updated for three versions of WordPress. So I’m moving everyone to Category Tag Pages. It allows your pages to also use your tag and category lists. If you switch, of course, you have to go back in and retag and re-categorize your pages. Super annoying.

NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster
I loved this one and used it for years. Then the web got more security conscious and I never was able to figure out how to use this. I went to using HootSuite and then to Loomly (see below)

It costs a bit but you can pass that on to clients or write it off as business software expenses. Very easy to use.

wordpress plugins

For website speed

Autoptimize makes optimizing your site really easy. It can aggregate, minify and cache scripts and styles, injects CSS in the page head by default but can also inline critical CSS and defer the aggregated full CSS, moves and defers scripts to the footer and minifies HTML.

WP Super Cache

This plugin generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog.
