Cleaning up my own implementation of the Yoast SEO plugin

When I wrote this post, I was preparing for a MeetUp on December 10th, and so doing my own SEO audit and deeply drilling down into Yoast’s free SEO plugin. I wanted to decide what is important to cover and what is not. I only allowed myself 15 minutes for this, with the other 20 minutes divided between a really short intro to keyword list development and how to optimize a wordpress.com website’s SEO.

It was a greatly attended and well-received training. I’ve helped several small businesses learn how to implement their own SEO audit, and would like to help you, too. Let’s get started!

Yoast has given us a powerful tool

Of course I will start with the general settings and the features tab and the webmaster tools. There are a couple of tricks in the Search Appearance I want to address. And yes, we will go examine the green-dot game over on a post so I can both encourage people not to play that game and what to concentrate on in this section of their post.

It’s been awhile since I really drilled down into my website in this way. Very interesting what I’ve neglected to do or keep up! And if it’s been forever since you did your own SEO audit, get cracking! You will thank yourself as your website becomes more findable.
